Awareness Ribbons with Heart

Awareness ribbons, also called rememberance ribbons, are short pieces of ribbon folded into a loop, or images of such, which are used in the United States, Canada, Australia, UK and other parts of the world as a way for wearers of the ribbon to make a statement of support for or to raise awareness of a cause or issue.

The meaning behind the awareness ribbon depends on its color or colors. Many groups have adopted ribbons as symbols of support or awareness, and as a result, many causes often share each color. Some causes may also be represented by more than one color.

The largest use of ribbons is to draw awareness and support to health or social issues. The most well-known are the red ribbon for support of those with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and the pink awareness ribbon which denotes breast cancer awareness. Other health and social concerns which have also adopted colored ribbons including a few unique designs such as the autism awareness puzzle design.
